There are a number of BHER principles or “policies” that provide a guide for BHER partner institutions and students who engage in BHER related university programs. These principles have arisen within the BHER Partnership, as well as from our GAC funder:
- gender-equity and sensitivity;
- environmental sustainability;
- tuition and scholarship-free educational opportunities that are built upon a cost-recovery model;
- collaboration with local partner universities;
- establishment of an “Enabling Fund” for students that for the BHER project included transportation and lunch money; on-line and on-site remedial or mentoring support by teaching assistants and instructors
- access to computer labs, as well as tablets
